(Mabuhay, In Focus Section) October 2001
It might be too audacious to say that Pier One made Libis but few will argue that it is currently the dining strip's epicenter. Just look at the crowd that fills its three floors to the rafters, sometimes spilling to the parking area. Even on so-called slow days, Pier One manages to attract a large crowd. Part of its appeal is its
unorthodox structure. Seven container vans were bolted together and arranged like a ship with glassed- in areas as well as decks and verandas. Early diners start coming in at 5 PM when it's still relatively quiet and they can partake of the best-selling sisig in peace. Bar time starts at 10 PM when the crowd gets livelier and the music more upbeat. The food is good but the menu offers nothing distinctive; the same grilled specialties are served in other inihaw (grilled food) joints along the strip. But somehow the formula works-food that's
noteworthy, prices that are reasonable, and a view that is, at least in the area, second to none.
